Don Cathy President and COO of Chick-fil-A said in an Interview with the Biblical Recorder and picked up by the Baptist Press:
It began as a college scholarship and expanded to a foster care program, an international ministry, and a conference and retreat center modeled after the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove.
"That morphed into a marriage program in conjunction with national marriage ministries," Cathy added.
Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position.
"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.
"We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized.
"We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."
The media storm grew larger when a June 16 radio program was spotlighted in which Cathy underscored the need for children to have a mom and a dad.
"As it relates to society in general, I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than You as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Cathy said on "The Ken Coleman Show." "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about."
Chick-fil-A issued a statement Thursday (July 19) telling its customers that "going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena" and that its tradition is "to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect -- regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender." It also noted that it has applied "biblically-based principles" to business management and will continue to do so.
Wow what an example of hate-filled rhetoric. That’ll probably leave a mark. It is fascinating that refusing to recognize gay marriage as equivalent to the thousands- of- years -old family unit between a man, woman and children constitutes “hatred of gays”. Marriage is a societal union set up to provide the optimal social, psychological, and economic structure for child-rearing. Children are the biological and natural result of a sexual relationship of a man and woman.
Self-described gay, lesbian and bisexuals make up less than 2.9% of the population – of those only a small percentage wish to get married and even a smaller percentage want a relationship based on child-rearing.The fact is that most people fail to see what the hub-ub is concerning this exceedingly small population who demand a “right” that does not exist.
Fast forward to July 23 when the Muppets “parent” company (The Jim Henson Company) got their panties in a wad about Chick-fil-A and released this asinine statement:
“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over 50 years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A (sic) that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors,” said a Facebook statement from the company. “Lisa Henson, our CEO, is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A (sic) to GLAAD [ a homosexual promotion organization].”
Let me get this straight (pun intended)… the Muppets will no longer partner with Chick-fil-A because the President of Chick-fil-A said what the vast majority of Americans believe? I think Chick-fil-A should release a statement that they will no longer partner with the Muppets because they support a radical organization like GLAAD.
These companies continue to bite the proverbial hand that feeds them – from McDonalds to General Mills (children’s breakfast cereal makers) and now the Muppets – all organizations that depend on more babies being birthed across the U.S. (with parents financially stable enough) to pay to watch their stupid puppets and eat their crappy food.
