Private military subcontractors and
the DOD face some hard decisions as sequestration cuts become a painful reality.
A study by the nonprofit Center for
Strategic and Budgetary Assessments says sequestration would force the
Department of Defense to immediately lay off 108,000 full-time (civilian) workers by the end of 2012. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Other defense-related subcontractors would quickly follow suit, laying off tens of thousands of employees
as military contracts are cancelled because of the budget sequestration plan signed
off by President Obama.
Obama is following the example of Captain Francesco Schettino who abandoned his cruise ship, the
Costa Concordia, after it capsized off the Tuscany coast killing at
least 30 people, echoing Obama's mantra, “SAVE YOURSELF!”
In a cynical act of
political gamesmanship, the Obama administration’s Labor Department issued new
guidelines for defense contractors to ignore the layoffs prior to the November
Over the summer, the
Labor Dept. told contractors it would be “inappropriate” to issue earlier notification
of potential layoffs tied to the sequestration measures, leaving employees
without warning of impending job cuts. Not only is this a violation of federal law (the WARN Act), this lack of notification could also make companies liable
for additional compensation if their employees are not given sufficient warning of impending layoffs. Obviously,
the Obama administration is unconcerned about the employees being fairly notified, violation of existing federal law, or the cost and liability to the employers. Lockeed
Martin balked at the heinous DOD guideline, and indicated in June that they most likely would not comply with the mandate and send out notifications to all employees despite the Dept. of
Yesterday, the OMB offered a carrot to go with the stick, proposing a deal to contractors to be compensated
for legal costs if layoffs occur (due to contract terminations because of
sequestration) —IF the contractors follow the Dept. of Labor guidance. A bribe for contractors with taxpayer dollars. In other
words, the contractors will be compensated only if the contractors agree to hold off sending layoff notices until AFTER the November presidential election (so that Obama will not be blamed for the sequestration agreement or the layoffs). Merry Christmas to all the employees who will suffer under this despicable political ploy.
The Hill.com reported that Senate Republicans
(who had accused the White House of trying to hide job losses after the first
guidance was issued over the summer) said Friday that the new OMB statement
“puts politics ahead of American workers.”
Perhaps the Republicans could issue a stronger statement?
Bubba Watson came to the Ryder to play. Okay not just golf, but ping-pong.
“The Ryder Cup is all about ping pong, everybody,” Bubba Watson declared.
Bubba referred to his fellow Ryder Cup teammates who take their golf and apprently their ping-pong quite seriously.
“When you bring your own paddles in cases, a briefcase with a paddle in it, then obviously it’s about ping pong. Phil Mickelson and Matt Kuchar have their own cases for their paddles,” Watson said, chuckling. “It’s nuts.”
The golfers have an enviable set-up in their private gameroom, complete with three ping-pong tables that are constantly in use. Affable games with husband-and-wife teams such as the Mickelsons; and then there is the “blood-and-guts” division — apparently, any singles match involving Phil.
Today, The Ryder Cup started with a bang. Bubba Watson shook the golf world, teeing off to a cheering & stomping crowd. Bubba's tee shot was like a cross between Happy Gilmore and Caddyshack - the old school crowd was shocked at Bubba's lack of decorum while the rest of us were joining with the crowd. Perhaps the days of the soft, polite golf clap are over?
So what's the big deal? This is unheard of in the prim and polite world of golf.
The night before this match Bubba tweeted:
"All@nfl fans watch the Ryder Cup this week, we got no refs. #USA"
Kinda makes you wonder if the Europeans are sipping Earl Gray and watching reruns of Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen on the telley during the down time?
All @nfl fans watch the Ryder Cup this week, we got no refs. #USA
Now I am really peeved. Romney adviser Beth Myers sent out a
memo to Team Romney. I am not sure if she is being paid by Axelrod and Plouffe
to say this; if she is lowering expectations; or if Romney had a bad debate
practice. Either way, if you want to see what a dolt our current oval office
placeholder has become, check out Obama’s interview on 60 Minutes and then let
me know about his natural gifts for oratory. Obama hems, haws, and stutters
like a meth addict trying to read aloud from Beowulf.
“President Obama is a uniquely
gifted speaker, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented political
communicators in modern history,” Myers writes, calling Obama a “universally
acclaimed public speaker.”
Beyond his “natural gifts” for oratory, Meyers argues that Obama
has “substantial debate experience under his belt.”“This will be the eighth
one-on-one presidential debate of his political career. For Mitt Romney, it
will be his first,” she says. Obama, in her words, has had “extensive
seasoning under the bright lights of the debate stage.”
Extensive seasoning? “Sippin on a slurpee” or “Lemme be clear.” “Go
get your cousin, Pookie...” How about, “I just wanna know whose ass to kick!”
Oh yes, his past statements reflect someone who is universally
acclaimed as a public speaker. Give it a rest, Beth.

Re: 2012 Presidential Debates
In a matter of days, Governor Romney
and President Obama will meet on the presidential debate stage. President Obama
is a universally-acclaimed public speaker and has substantial debate experience
under his belt. However, the record he’s compiled over the last four years –
higher unemployment, lower incomes, rising energy costs, and a national debt
spiraling out of control – means this will be a close election right up to
Between now and then, President Obama
and Governor Romney will debate three times. While Governor Romney has the
issues and the facts on his side, President Obama enters these contests with a
significant advantage on a number of fronts.
Voters already believe – by a 25-point
margin – that President Obama is likely to do a better job in these debates.
Given President Obama’s natural gifts and extensive seasoning under the bright
lights of the debate stage, this is unsurprising. President Obama is a uniquely
gifted speaker, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented political
communicators in modern history. This will be the eighth one-on-one presidential
debate of his political career. For Mitt Romney, it will be his first.
Four years ago, Barack Obama faced
John McCain on the debate stage. According to Gallup, voters judged him the
winner of each debate by double-digit margins, and their polling showed he won
one debate by an astounding 33-point margin. In the 2008 primary, he faced
Hillary Clinton, another formidable opponent – debating her one-on-one numerous
times and coming out ahead. The takeaway? Not only has President Obama gained
valuable experience in these debates, he also won them comfortably.
But what must President Obama
overcome? His record. Based on the campaign he’s run so far, it’s clear that
President Obama will use his ample rhetorical gifts and debating experience to
one end: attacking Mitt Romney. Since he won’t — and can’t — talk about his
record, he’ll talk about Mitt Romney. We fully expect a 90-minute attack ad
aimed at tearing down his opponent. If President Obama is as negative as we
expect, he will have missed an opportunity to let the American people know his
vision for the next four years and the policies he’d pursue. That’s not an
opportunity Mitt Romney will pass up. He will talk about the big choice in this
election – the choice between President Obama’s government-centric vision and
Mitt Romney’s vision for an opportunity society with more jobs, higher
take-home pay, a better-educated workforce, and millions of Americans lifted
out of poverty into the middle class.
This election will not be decided by
the debates, however. It will be decided by the American people. Regardless of
who comes out on top in these debates, they know we can’t afford another four
years like the last four years. And they will ultimately choose a better future
by electing Mitt Romney to be our next president.
"If Republicans are to win back the Senate and stop
President's liberal agenda, we must defeat
Senator Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Her support of President Obama's
job-killing, big-spending policies are sending our country into an economic
abyss,” said Mr. Santorum and Sen. Jim
DeMint (R) of South
Carolina in a jointly released statement.
No joke. But not Texas Senator (that big, lumbering ball of
fur), John Cornyn. Nope Cornyn can’t get off his arse and write a check to the
Akin campaign because it is better to pretend to be politically correct than
win a damn Senate seat that could influence the direction of our nation.
Akin is the Republican challenging the incumbent Democrat Claire
McCaskill in what used to be a “sure thing,” pick- up Senate seat for
Republicans in Missouri. McCaskill has been incompetent during her term in
Akin is notorious for “going off the reservation” with his
idiotic statements about exceptions to abortion, claiming that women who are "legitimately" raped will not get pregnant or something. Of course that would be
news to Jaycee Dugard who was held hostage (in handcuffs for years) and
repeatedly raped for almost two decades – and became pregnant. Nevertheless,
Akin was sadly mistaken; he should not have answered the question or come up
with a better answer, but was dumped by the Republican Party for his 6 second
mistake. Akin refused to drop out of the race.
“I just think that this is not a winnable
race. We have to make tough calculations based on limited resources
and where to allocate it, where it will have the best likelihood of electing a
Republican senator. I just think any money we would have to spend there would
be money we would have to pull away from other close races around the country
which I think have a greater probability of electing a Republican senator,”
Cornyn said. “So it’s pretty much a business decision.”
decision? The polls show Akin and McCaskill TIED. It is more than a winnable
race and Cornyn and his establishment ilk still can’t figure out how to win an
election? Who in the heck would vote for a politically correct establishment Republican who has lost his mancard? Oh wait…I did. Shame on me.
Basseley Nakoula, the 55-year-old alleged filmmaker of the movie trailer, Innocence of Muslims was hauled away by
the feds for allegedly violating the terms of his probation of his 2010 fraud conviction.
evidence of a pre-planned al Qaeda conspiracy comes to light surrounding the recent
attack on the consulate in Benghazi (which
resulted in the murder of four of the American state department staff) the Obama administration continued its lies
and cover-up, blaming the damage on protesters run amuck – protesting Mr.
Nakoula’s film trailer. News media sources
reported that the Obama administration had advance warning of the attack n the
U.S. Consulate, including a pin-point location of one of the members of the
group that participated in terrorist assault and murder of staffers and U.S.
Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens. The Obama administration has not responded
to questions about the lack of security for the Ambassador or why no “gutsy
call” was made by the President or Secretary of State to prevent such an
attack. The White House has repeated its mantra that the movie was to blame
regardless of the evidence presented.
Nakoula has now been denied bail, according to the court "The court has a
lack of trust in this defendant at this time," the judge said. He has been
charged with 8 violations of the terms of his probation including using
computers and the Internet without supervision.
week, Obama appeared in front of the U.N. claiming that Nakoula’s film trailer
was an “"insult not only to Muslims, but to America."
Barack, not only was the video not offensive to me as an American, but what is TRULY offensive is your abuse of executive power to cover-up a terrorist attack
by blaming and harassing an albeit
less-than-talented “filmmaker” who already served his term in prison for fraud.
Nakoula is the sacrificial man in this situation, and given his past record
probably will not have a lot of folks rallying to help. This is nothing more
than a smokescreen to cover the fatal incompetence of the Obama administration.
Everyone who has seen the viral OBAMAPHONE video has wondered if
it’s true. Yes, actually it is.
The Feds designed a program in 1984 called Lifeline that provides a discount on
phone service for qualifying low-income consumers. It was originally created to
subsidize land line phone access for the poor.
By 2008, the program was expanded to support cell phones. That
same year the overall cost of the program was $772 million, but by 2011 it cost
taxpayers $1.6 billion.
Lifeline’s Guidelines are as follows:
To participate in the program, consumers must have an income that
is at or below 135% of the federal Poverty Guidelines or
participate in a qualifying state, federal or Tribal assistance program.
To participate in the program, consumers must either have an
income that is at or below 135% of the federal Poverty Guidelines or
participate in one of the following assistance programs:
Head Start (if
income eligibility criteria are met); or
programs (if applicable).
Federal rules prohibit eligible low-income consumers from
receiving more than one Lifeline discount per household. An eligible
consumer may receive a discount on either a wireline or wireless service, but
not both. A consumer whose household currently is receiving more than one
Lifeline service must select a single Lifeline provider and contact the other
provider to de-enroll from their program. Consumers violating this rule may
also be subject to criminal and/or civil penalties. (From http://www.fcc.gov/lifeline)
Of course, waste, fraud, and abuse are rampant - the Washington Examiner reported
that a government audit in 2011 suggested that 269,000 had received free phones
and service from more than one service. Surprise. I guess the “honor system”
This program is slated to be the method by which free broadband
service will be available to low-income households in the future. A “pilot
program” has already been established to identify broadband carriers who will
offer their service to the taxpayer funded government benefit.
Free cell phones, free cell service and broadband for everybody!
Awesome. I wonder if the government will get me a MACBOOK PRO?
Politics and ...beer? I have noticed that Obama has been on the campaign trail 24/7 burbling about the one thing he has actually done while residing at the White House - taste variations of and finally approve a Honey Ale beer recipe. After all, you can't spend ALL OF YOUR TIME figuring out ways to destroy the economy, increase the debt and deficit at record highs, and downgrade our credit twice - you gotta take a beer break.
The interesting thing about this survey, is that the high turnout Democrat voters seem to prefer Molson. Ick. I rarely drink beer, but when I do I tend to prefer Michelob Ultra, Amstel Light, Corona and Heineken in that order.
In case you were wondering, here is the typical liberal Democrat who votes for Obama. Notice how he is focused on Romney=Rich and Obama =Tried Really Hard. Completely uninformed with a tinge of the cynicism of the stupid. Especially love the part about the murder of Ambassador Stevens : "We prolly had it comin." Genius.
