The ridiculous protests of the Keystone Pipeline continue. Let’s review what I have said before on the subject and history of the pipeline:
While China licks its chops, the Canadian Prime Minister has been embroiled in a conflict of ridiculous proportions, brought about by the Obama betrayal of yet another ally. Everyone knows that inexpensive fossil fuels and fossil fuel development are the only viable energy wave of the future. Fear of pipeline spills, ignorance of science and technology (oil/natural gas are actually “natural substances”), pretending that carbon dioxide is the most harmful greenhouse gas (water vapor is), are all battles that can be won by reasonable scientific and technological education of the public. Too bad no one is speaking on behalf of the fossil fuels industry.
FACT: The Keystone Pipeline has been considered and studied for more than four years.
FACT: Obama decided AGAINST going forward with the pipeline alleging that it needed additional study.
FACT: There are approximately 95,000 miles of pipeline currently operating in the United States
FACT: The Keystone pipeline is an extension of an existing pipeline and would be a method of transport only 36” in diameter.
FACT: Environmental studies have been taking place for more than 1,200 days. The last study released at the end of August, 2011 found that the massive pipeline would have “limited adverse environmental impacts” if operated according to regulations.
FACT: That positive assessment of the previous study was generally thought to remove the last hurdle for approval of the proposed pipeline.
FACT: Whether the pipeline is built or not in the United States will have ZERO impact on the environment because Canada is still going to develop those oil sands anyway, most likely with Chinese support. China does NOT have the record of safe environmental practices standards as the United States.
Department has now come out with a NEW REPORT yesterday afternoon, stating that
“no significant impacts to most
resources along the proposed Project route.” Yet another report that reveals the pipeline has no
significant impact on the environment, but from economic forecasts, we know
that the construction of the pipeline would have a positive impact on energy
development and economic development in the Unites States.
Despite the plethora of contradictory evidence, moonbat ecoterrorists everywhere went wild with outrage Friday, claiming the world would end because of the negative impact to the climate the pipeline extension would cause.
The Sierra Club: From Club Executive Director Michael Brune: “We’re mystified as to how the State Department can acknowledge the negative effects of the Earth’s dirtiest oil on our climate, but at the same time claim that the proposed pipeline will ‘not likely result in significant adverse environmental effects. Whether this failure was willful or accidental, this report is nothing short of malpractice. You know the news is bad when it’s buried at 4 p.m. on a Friday afternoon
Greenpeace Executive Director Phil Radford: “Letting corporations get rich off of environmental devastation will make Obama’s climate rhetoric look like the worst kind of greenwashing.”
Climate Activist Bill McKibben: “Groundhog Day — we're hearing the same rehashed arguments from the State [Department] about why a great threat to the climate is not a threat at all. Mother Nature filed her comments last year — the hottest year in American history; the top climate scientists in the U.S. have already chimed in.”
