The United Kingdom provides a snapshot at what the future of the Christian religion may be in the U.S. Participation in the church is in a steep decline and those identifying themselves as Christians are fewer.
Cultural pressure and secular political correctness are rapidly replacing Christian cultural norms– it is no longer widely believed that a personal relationship with God is important or that formal worship of Him is necessary.
Laughably, in a decision so completely absurd, the Church of England recently agreed that gay clergy in civil partnerships can become bishops so long as they remain sexually abstinent. Perhaps the church will provided crucifix- laden nanny cams in the living quarters of its gay clergy to make sure that no funny business is going on between the gay domestic partners? This naked attempt to succumb to social pressure to accept the gay lifestyle and marry this secular attitude with standards for clergy is patently ridiculous.
In an equally preposterous decision, the Church of England is reportedly now training ministers to “create new forms of Anglicanism suitable for people of alternative beliefs.” In other words, the church is yielding its standards yet again to attract pagans – specifically druids and other types of “spiritual worshipers” such as those who congregate at Stonehenge in an annual pilgrimage.
This is the Church of England’s strategy to build membership and increase congregation numbers.
The leaders of the Church of England have fallen victim to legalism and confused doctrine, theology, morality and ecclesiasticism. Morality is defined acceptable behavior based on cultural norms. Jesus did not dictate a standardized moral code, but used the example of his teachings and sacrifice of His life as an example for us to express the divine character of God in our behavior.
Christian clergymen have become ensconced in the world of legalism and morality rather than in teaching the larger themes of grace and Godliness. It was simply a matter of time before the beleaguered church leaders, obsessed with the decline in “numbers” watered down the message, turned away from His Word and summarily dismissed the point of Christ’s sacrifice.
