The Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers discovered the theft of 10 million pounds of maple syrup during a routine inventory check at a reserve warehouse about 100 miles north east of Montreal. The value of the heist? $30.4 million U.S. Dollars.
Quebec produces 75% of the world’s maple syrup and they have been hording a 37 million pound strategic reserve for more than a decade to address syrup shortages in the marketplace.
Of course, most of us are now picturing trench-coated Inspector Clouseau following a trail of waffle crumbs out of the door of the warehouse followed by a group of Canadian Mounties on horseback surrounded by a pack of syrup -sniffing beagles.
