It appears Diane Feinstein's "assault weapons" ban will not be brought to the floor for a vote. Ted Cruz gets another scalp.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) found out after a meeting with Harry Reid Monday that the controversial gun ban bill she sponsored will not be part of a Democratic gun bill that was expected to reach the Senate floor and can only be offered as an amendment. This exclusion virtually kills the bill.
Don’t get all happy yet – this is part of the Dems overall “strategery” to get universal registration, forcing Feinstein to fall on the sword on the liberals’ behalf.
Minority Whip Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), believes that there should be tightened checks for gun purchases by the “mentally ill.” Cornyn opposes all Democratic gun grab proposals on “assault weapons,” “high-capacity” magazines or expanded background checks.
“To truly address gun violence, and do so with broad bipartisan support, we should be addressing the serious deficiencies in our mental health system, improving our background check database and rigorously enforcing existing laws,” said Cornyn.
