Frankly as the weeks have gone by, the decisions on who was invited to speak (and who was not) have inspired a well-deserved snark-fest by conservative pundits - even driving a few to skip the event in protest.
One of the most controversial additions, Donald Trump Celebrionnaire, certainly ruffled some feathers.
Donald Trump's Saturday morning keynote did not disappoint - vintage Trump. Trump was serenaded by the Ojay's disco hit "For the Love of Money" as he sauntered onto the stage. Hardly conservative, Trump opened with a reiteration nation's dismal economic numbers. And then launched into a reality-based criticism of the Republican Party.
Tepid applause smattered as he presented his views of immigration (amnesty); his hands off advice when it comes to adjusting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security and opinion that we should have paid ourselves back with oil revenues from Iraq.
However, Trump is both optimistic and realistic at the same time. Citing figures such as there will be 11 million immigrants who will vote Democratic and that the only real way to fix America and its revenue problems are to grow the economy and take our medicine.
